This Little Light

A little light goes out tonight

In the dark sky

Glittered with billions of little lights

Each one glowing

Each one burning

Some so fiercely

Some ever so dimly

Then another light goes out

And another

To someone on the ground

There is no difference

Sometimes they notice

Most often they do not

And the light goes out unseen

Then the drops fall

Slowly at first

Suddenly it pours

Someone is crying

Someone’s heart is aching

It can only be

The one who made the light

What creator does not weep

When what he creates is lost

The light was just one

Among many

But it held a value

Not everyone can see

And by its existence

Or its ceasing to exist

Its value remains

And is magnified

By the hand that governs the sky

By the same hand

That carefully crafted the light

Intending for it a purpose

A special one

Only that light can fulfill

And by its existence

Or its ceasing to exist

It serves its purpose well
