Constancy

I wonder how many go through the motions every day
Pretending like everything’s okay
When it is not
Knowing they need help
But don’t know how to ask
Knowing they need to open up
But don’t because their own thoughts tell them not to
No one would understand
No one really cares
Lies, lies, how many more lies
Must they fight against everyday
For them to win
For this to pass
For the sun to break through
And bring them joy at last
The desire to turn back
Has now become their constant companion
What keeps them from yielding?
What keeps them going?
For those who believe, it is faith
Faith not in oneself
Or in anything in this world
But in the one thing that is constant
God’s love
And faith spurs on hope
Hope that the sun is definitely there
Waiting to appear
That the clouds are just like that
Fleeting
The wait is difficult
Treacherous
Tiring
Being on their guard all the time
Always on the verge of breaking down
Many times they are unable to understand
Why they need to pass through this wasteland
Yet they trust in God who placed them there
In seeming isolation
But no matter how it looks
They were never left on their own volition
To be on this path is never easy
But it is a path well-trodden
Though well-hidden
Despite everything
Hope remains
They continue to seek
And then one day
One day
The sun will peek
They will see its face
And their hearts will praise
Forever
“Hope is the constancy of faith.” – John Calvin
